Today on Judge Judy
Plaintiff: 17 year old girl with her father
Defendant: 40 something year old man, paints lines on the highway.
Story: Girl is driving home at night after visiting her aunt. She is coming up a hill at 45mph (the speed limit) and just as she begins her descent she hits the defendant, who is out with his leaf blower cleaning his driveway. He sustains minor damage which keeps him out of work for 10 days. His leaf blower is totaled. Girl's car is damaged where the man's body and leaf blower hit it.
Girl wants compensation for the damage to her car. Defendant is counter-claiming for a new leaf-blower and lost wages.
So Judge Judy (JJ) listens to the story and asks the girl why she feels the need to sue the man. She says (while in tears) that she feels that he should not have been out at that hour cleaning his driveway. JJ laughs and asks the defendant if he is counter-claiming because he is being sued and he says "yes". He was just happy to be alive after the accident, but when he heard he was being sued he decided to counter-claim.
Anyone who has seen JJ in action can imagine the expression on her face. She kept herself calm and asked the father why he was allowing his daughter to file such an indiotic suit. He says that he encouraged her to do it because he felt she had a case. Afterall the man should have seen her coming over the hill and shouldn't have been in the road (edge of his driveway). JJ asked the girl why she didn't look out forthe man. She said she couldn't see over the brow of the hill and it was dark......
JJ: "So why the hell were you going so fast!!!"
SG: "I wasn't, I was in the speed limit!"
JJ: "So you couldn't see, you're going over a hill, why didn't you slow down?"
SG: "Why was he out at that hour and why didn't he see me and move out of the way?"
JJ: "What was he to use his periscope?"
JJ then asks Defendant how much wages he lost and the cost of his leaf-blower. He provided the quotation for the new one and pics of the old one. He has scars on his elbow and there is a dent in his right leg where he lost tissue but he says he's alright. JJ dismisses Plaintiff's claim and awards Defendant cost of new blower and the 10 days lost wages ($1200).
I'm not into violence against women so I guess I'd have to jump into the TV and smack her dad for teaching her such idiotic values that she listened to his assinine suggestion to sue a man that she mowed down at night at the maximum speed limit.
I'd say it's silly Americans and be done with it but that sickness of stupidity and poverty of common sense and values is right here in Jamdown. Sometimes I wish I could walk through the population and just slash and burn..... but then that would make me some sort of heartless dictatorial monster purveying another kind of immorality.
No matter how good it feels, two wrongs down't make a right.
