Route canal

About 20 years ago I chipped my left 2nd incisor on my bed head while repeatedly 'kin-poop-a-licking'. Thought nothing of it and life continued. 5 years later the dentist decided that I ought to have it capped/filled to protect it from 'cavity creeps'. I refused, he spoke to my mum, I got a cap!

2 years later it fell off. It was replaced, then it fell off within the warranty time , so the replacement was free. It fell off again and they decided to stem the flow of freeness. So the tooth was shaved and shaped to allow the filling to fit better. During the process I realised that their anaesthetic agent didn't work for me, even at 2.5X the regular dose (talk about grin and bear it).

The cap fell off outside of the warranty. I thought of the drill and needles and popped that sucker back in. Since then it has slipped out and I've pushed it back in. I went back in 2000 for a check-up and having generated enough courage I decided to have the cap replaced. However, my regular dentist wasn't there and in her stead was a Cuban dentist who made me bleed from between every tooth. I spat so much blood I thought it was a Mike Tyson fight, either that or I was in an Ice Hockey game and no one reminded me.

I swore off dentists (silly me) and later decided that I just needed to avoid him. In 2006 they told me that he no longer worked there, so I returned and had my teeth cleaned. At that time I found out that they no longer did free dental examinations (now worth $2000). Perhaps I should have ponied up.

So Wednesday gone my capped tooth starts feeling weird/super-sensitive. I watch it like any other 'real' man would hoping that it would sort itself out and not require any real attention. Thursday I made an appointment to see the dentist as I realised that in this heat I could not drink cold liquids because the sensitivity increased to sharp explosive type pain.

The new dentist informed me that I must be grinding my teeth and so I weakened the filling cause it to crack and the nerve was now exposed. She deadened the area and I prayed with all my might that the anaesthetic would work this time around. It did and I could have kissed her. She drilled and filled and fashioned and shaped and when she was done, my mouth was numb as was my nose but my tooth looked great. I congratulated her on great work, paid them the pound of flesh dripping with blood and went my merry numbed way.

Anaesthetic wears off and pain kick me dung! I can eat but only drink through a straw and its straight up and down the hatch... no time to even taste. I make an appointment for Saturday and I go in. They decide they want to x-ray the tooth and they see that the cap put on Thursday is encroaching on the pulp space and irritating the nerve. the recommendation is root canal!!

He proceeds to explain what it is all about and explain that I need to see the specialist to have it done. I ask if I may be rendered unconscious for the procedure and he says that its no longer necessary to do it like that. I explain to him that I really wasn't asking about the necessity from his perspective but from mine.

He wants to give me Cataflam in the mean time. Cataflam is sweety fi real pain. I declined and decided to tough it out like a man. Now that I can't eat or drink, toughing it out seems like an ass-eeediat thing to do!!

I'm currently drinking wine out of a straw as a more pleasant pain reliever. I am so screwed!!!
