Holy Week

Poor Terry Shiavou. She's already not with us completely and they want to hasten her demise. Simply leave the feeding tube in and see how long she lasts. None of us can claim to live forever simply because we are eating. I understand both sides but the husband is taking upon his head a serious crime no matter how legal the Courts claim it is. He has no right to kill his wife or cause her death by such a purposeful action as removing her feeding tube and starving her.

If it was that she was on a respirator or other such artificial means of maintaining her and it was needed for the life of another who was better able to make a recovery then one could understand. In such a case we would be artificially maintaining the shell of someone. But feeding her when she is unable to feed herself is not the same, because babies can't feed themselves and we must feed them. The elderly soemtimes can't feed themselves and neither can some of the severly handicapped ppl in this world and we don't seek to kill them (only those in the womb who we can't see...different story).

So she said she didn't want to be left in such a state. When we make such decisions we do so without any knowledge of what that state is really like. What we do know is that the person we know is no longer there, just the body. As a result let the body die on its own. After all, we all have our hour to depart; feeding tube or not we can't cheat death. It's euthanasia in sheeps clothing.
