New Visa Regulation for British Virgin Islands

Effective April 01, 2007, all Jamaicans will be required to obtain a
visa to enter the British Virgin Islands. This was announced by the
Chief Minister last week.

Arrangements are in place to facilitate work-related visits to the BVI
of UWI staff or students who are Jamaican. When any member of the
University community, who is Jamaican, needs to visit the BVI on UWI
business, a letter requesting a visa exemption should be submitted as
early as possible, through the University Resident Tutor in Tortola to
the Deputy Governor of the BVI for processing. The application for an
exemption should include the name of the person(s) as well as the
passport number(s) and the reason for their visit. There will be a fee
but this is yet to be decided.

Without this exemption, the applicant would need to go through the
regular visa application process at the nearest British High Commission.
