P. "Warrah wah!? Afta mi no ave no pickney!"
J. "Silence! It has been brought to our attention that you intend to have sexual relations with your girlfriend and the possibility exists that you may end up fathering a child by her".
P. "But pupa Jesus, oonu mad! Mi not even buy boots yet!"
J. "Silence! You have the equipment and the intent to use it so you need to begin paying child support in case a child should be produced from your union. Think of it as insurance!".....
Scenario 2
(soon come)
Insurance, glorious Insurance!....... The biggest scam I have ever come across! Granted, for those who actually get a payment out of them, I'm sure they are quite pleased that they had insurance.
The typical situation is that you purchase your car and you're told that you must purchase insurance in order to operate the vehicle legally on the nations streets. Private roads are not covered. Now you paid $1M for the vehicle and they will gladly agree with you even though they know that if you should wreck it as you leave their parking lot they would have subtracted 10% for possession depreciation.
So they charge you $100K for annual insurance. OK, that's only 10% of the car value... Yah!! At the end of the year, if nothing happens, they keep it and you have to pay them another $100K. That's hardly fair, give me back some of it! Nope! Because they need it to pay those who had accidents (or so they say) and their overhead and then profit of course. Perhaps they will make a few deductions from that for not actually claiming on them and you'll get $5K off your next annual premium.
But what if something had happened.

"Excuse me?! I thought I had insurance to cover the cost of repairs?! Why am I finding my own money now on top of what I paid to you? I did report an accident right... not a purpose! Hell if I did it on purpose I wouldn't be here! I drive an AUDI S4/ Jetta 1.8T/ WRX/ Evo X/ Altezza! Do you really think that I would wreck it on purpose? OR I drive a swift/oxford morris! Do you think I can find $25K upfront? "
It's almost as if they are punishing you for being in an accident. All of a sudden you are guilty till proven .....Hell you're guilty forever, because your premium is increased because you claimed!
But what about house insurance? Same damn story! Buying a new house? You're screwed! Gotta have insurance. Do those who capture land pay insurance?
Term insurance! Set for a specific period offering a pre-arranged coverage. You pay and if nothing happens at the end of the period, they keep the money and you rest easy knowing that had something happened you.... oops not you but your beneficiary would have made a bundle..... At term you keep my money? To claim on it I must be shot to hell, literally! That sucks!
Insurance plays on fears! It encourages an unhealthy fearful reliance on ifs and maybes! The WHAT IF! and JUST IN CASE! factors are overpowering! Rapists and mobsters use the same scare tactics.... ok, maybe that was a bit harsh.
INSURANCE SUCKS!! Now excuse me as I go pay mine!

AMEN!
Lots to say, but no time to say it. As a man in the industry myself, I understand why things are the way there are. Trust me, even though companies hold on to your money every year and keep that 25K (or whatever the case may be) when you have an accident, they dont make their money from premiums... In fact, most companies run at an underwriting loss and are saved instead by their investments. Note too that your premium doesnt always go up after an accident, though sometimes it does when it really should NOT in my opinion. And also, the excess you're forced to pay yourself (that 25K) completely contradicts 'indemnity', one of the fundamental principles of insurance... Ah well... I need to get paid!
